The Interdepartmental Coordination Council on School Feeding meeting was carried out in Tajikistan

Tajikistan
On April 23, in Dushanbe, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan Zulfiya Abdusamatzoda, representatives of the ministries - members of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council gathered to discuss the results of the School Feeding Programme for the first quarter of this year and plans for the near future.

The year started off quite productively. In Khatlon region, Yavan, Pyanj, Sughd region, in the districts of Isfara, Istaravshan, B. Gafurov, Spitamen, Devashtich, J. Rasulov established an uninterrupted supply of freshly baked bread from eight local bakeries for 110 thousand primary school students. WFP and SIFI have renovated and equipped bakeries with modern equipment. In March and April, bakers have already passed training courses, and now they prepare delicious high-quality products for children with all their professionalism.

In addition to bread, the school plate should include vegetables, fruits, meat - the more varied the menu, the better. It is good when the school can provide the canteen with a selection of natural products from its own school farm.

This year, WFP will help 50 schools in Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region, Rogun and Khatlon regions with the establishment of school farms. Each school will have its own: a greenhouse, a garden, livestock breeding, poultry, rabbits, beekeeping or a food canning workshop.

Currently, the WFP School Feeding Programme has not yet expanded to urban schools in Dushanbe, Khujand, Bokhtar and Khorog. Therefore, SIFI and WFP are planning to assess the current state of school feeding in urban schools in order to develop possible school meals models for them.

This year, many activities are planned to improve the quality of hot school meals for primary school students in Tajikistan. Follow our news to keep informed about the latest events!
