Tajikistan government boosts school feeding budget

A month after the opening meeting in January 2024, members of the Coordination Council on School Feeding reconvened at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan on February 13 to address urgent matters.

The meeting chaired by Deputy Minister Dilshod Safarzoda was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Education and Science, Finance, Economic Development and Trade, Industry and New Technologies, the State Committee for Investment and State Property Management, UN WFP, and SIFI. Discussions focused on the execution of the points of the previous meeting’s protocol and the implementation of the School Feeding Development Programme.

Heads of education departments of the cities and regions of the republic joined the extended session online.

Mr. Safarzoda emphasized that the Ministry of Education and Science is working closely with relevant ministries and departments, WFP Tajikistan and SIFI, to achieve the goals envisaged by the School Feeding Development Programme in Tajikistan.

He further stressed that with the financial and technical assistance from development partners, the School Feeding Programme for 2022–2027 is funded by the state budget.

This year, 12 more schools received governmental support for organizing school meals. The amount allocated per child daily increased from 2.1 to 2.7 somoni. Currently, 55 schools provide meals with state funding only.
