Dushanbe hosts regular meeting of Coordination Council on School Feeding

The year of 2024 in Tajikistan started with an important event. The Interdepartmental Coordination Council on School Feeding gathered at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population to discuss the results of the State School Feeding Programme registered in 2023 and plans for the near future.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection Zulfiya Abdusamatzoda, was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Education and Science, Finance, Economic Development and Trade, Agriculture, Industry and New Technologies, the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management, as well as the Agency for Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Inspection.

The State School Feeding Programne for 2022-2027 aims to improve children's health. As Mrs. Abdusamatzoda said, the program's main objective is a comprehensive update of the school feeding system, including technological, organizational, managerial, personnel, financial, and economic affairs, which will make it possible to ensure accessibility, quality, and safety of food for schoolchildren. “Healthy nutrition is an integral part of national development policy and the population’s well-being,” she added.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science Dilshod Safarzoda, in turn, emphasized that 2023 was a productive year. As part of the State School Feeding Programme, 55 schools were selected for renovation in cities and districts throughout Tajikistan, and on-site meetings of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council on School Feeding were held in the regions.

Funds for implementing the State School Feeding Programme are allocated from the state budget with financial and technical support from development partners - WFP and the Russian Social and Industrial Foodserive Institute (SIFI).

Today, 992,630 primary schoolchildren study in schools across the country. Systematic development of the school feeding system will help improve the quality of education and health of the younger generation.
