Kyrgyzstan
Last week, Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Beishenaliev met with Andrea Bagnoli, the UN WFP in the Kyrgyz Republic Country Director. They discussed joint work on improving school meals in the country.

Andrea Bagnoli said that WFP is interested in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and noted that the Programme implemented jointly has proved to be one of the most effective and sustainable programmes among 60 countries where projects on healthy nutrition are being implemented.

The parties agreed to speed up the process of creating a logistics center in the south of Kyrgyzstan. It is planned to purchase products from local farmers for local schools, as well as control the quality of these products. If necessary, the center will also prepare meals and deliver them to those schools that are not equipped with catering facilities and are unable to cook for their students.

There are also plans to create a training center in Bishkek to exchange experience and information with other countries that implement school meals programmes for students.

Today due to the UN WFP, the Russian Social and Industrial Foodservice Institute hot meals have been introduced in 700 schools. Also, with the support of the local government, canteens and communications were repaired in more than 700 schools.
