International Conference on Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition in Eurasia Featuring IFPRI's 2018 Global Food Policy Report

The main topic of the discussion - achieving food security. This is the subject of the 2018 Global Food Policy Report – Highlights and reflections on CIS countries.

This report IFPRI - International Food Policy Research Institute (Washington, USA) provides annually since 2011.

This year it was presented by Dr. Shenggen Fan, Director General, IFPRI. The document reflects main trends, problems and solutions in the field of food policy in 2017-2018, as well as key tasks and opportunities that need to be implemented at the global level.

According to the Report, main ways to solve the problems of food security and nutrition are:

— encourage an open, efficient, fair trading system;

— support rural development to reduce migration, conflicts, food insecurity;

— invest more in research and innovation for food systems;

— promote cooperation and mutual learning

— leverage new opportunities in emerging technologies and knowledge-sharing

— enhance evidence-based policy making, maximizing the benefits while minimizing the risks of globalization.

In addition to the Report, the participants also discussed issues of political economy of food security and nutrition, trade in agricultural and food products in the Eurasian region. Attention was also paid to current trends in food security and nutrition and sustainable land management and agriculture in Central Asia.

SIFI representative in Kyrgyzstan - Julia Kalinichenko took part in the Conference. Besides, on may 31 Julia will also take part in the Seminar on the methodology of food security in the Eurasian region case writing (organized by the ECFS with the support of the World Bank) with the presentation of the research «Formation of national policies aimed at the development of school feeding and improvement the effectiveness of food value chains in the Kyrgyz Republic».
