The Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic proposed to approve the organization of school meals by the law.

The law defines the concept of “students' meals” and the requirements for the organization of school meals for students of grades 1-4 of municipal and private schools.

The document also defines the tasks of school meals, the main ones are to ensure the quality, balance and safety food for children, as well as adherence to the diet and the acquisition of healthy balanced nutrition skills by students.

The law provides for the conditions for organizing school meals and possible sources of funding:
  • republican budget;
  • voluntarily contributed funds from parents or donors;
  • local government bodies.

Since 2013, thanks to the UN WFP and technical support from the Russian Social and Industrial Foodservice Institute, the country has begun to introduce hot meals in schools. The law will allow all schools wishing to host hot meals to do so in accordance with the new law.
