From February 9 to 13, School No. 28 in Nurobod District, Rasht Valley, Tajikistan, will host a Healthy Nutrition Week dedicated to International School Meals Day. The initiative is organized by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in partnership with the Russian Social and Industrial Foodservice Institute (SIFI).
This year’s Healthy Nutrition Week will take place under the motto “Eat. Move. Live.” and aims to present the connection between nutrition, physical activity, and overall well-being in a clear and engaging way for children. Over the course of five school days, children will explore the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle through games and creative activities, gradually building positive and sustainable habits.
The Week will open with a vibrant theatrical performance. Actors will immerse children in an interactive story about health and energy, introduce the goals and rules of the program, and invite children to become the main heroes in the week’s activities.
Each day will highlight a different aspect of healthy living. Children will learn where energy to learn and play comes from, which foods support growth and development, why movement is essential, and how to assemble a balanced meal on their own. The program will include animated films, simple experiments, short in-class physical activity breaks, healthy habit trackers, and new nutritious dishes served in the school canteen.
The Week will conclude with a celebration staged by the children themselves. Together with their teachers, children will present creative performances for a final concert, using songs, poems, and short sketches to showcase what they have learned.
“We want health to be not just a set of rules for children, but a meaningful personal experience filled with positive emotions,” the organizers emphasize. “When children discover the benefits of healthy eating and an active lifestyle through play and creativity, these habits stay with them for life.”
Parents will also have an important role. On the final day, they will be invited to a culinary masterclass led by a professional chef and a nutritionist. Together, they will learn how to prepare wholesome, appealing meals that even the pickiest young eaters will enjoy. A shared tasting session and informal discussion will help extend the conversation about nutrition beyond the school building and into family life.
Healthy Nutrition Week is being held within the framework of the WFP School Feeding Programme in Tajikistan and is designed to serve as an inspiring starting point for schoolchildren and their families, opening the door to healthy, delicious food and active living. This experience will lay a strong foundation for the long-term well-being of the younger generation, turning knowledge into lasting healthy habits.
