Kyrgyzstan has officially launched events dedicated to International School Meals Day, organized by the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, the UN World Food Programme (WFP), and the Russian Social and Industrial Foodservice Institute (SIFI). From March 18 to 27, the Unsung Heroes educational campaign will take place in the Chui and Jalal-Abad Provinces. This unique initiative will feature a series of interactive tasks, culminating in the creation of a creative “dossier” for each canteen staff member.
The main venues for the Healthy Nutrition Week will be two schools:
Over the course of two weeks, fourth-graders, guided by high school students, will acquire knowledge through games, teamwork, and physical activities. At the end of each session, every child will receive a copy of Educational Games on Healthy Eating to complete at home with their parents.
The primary school children will take on the role of real “agents,” collecting information about the school’s “unsung heroes” and creating “photofits” — artistic portraits of school cooks and kitchen staff produced using various decorative and applied art techniques. Through this playful investigation, children will discover the work carried out every day by the people who prepare their school meals.
The organizers aim to address an important social challenge: to change children’s attitudes toward school meals and to encourage greater appreciation for canteen staff whose efforts often go unnoticed.
The highlight of Healthy Nutrition Week will be a festival-style presentation in the form of an interactive quest, organized by high school students. During the final event, participants will showcase their creative projects and the results of their “investigations,” receive the honorary title of Health Keepers, and present cooks with handmade thank-you cards and portraits.
Healthy Nutrition Week is designed not only to boost the school cook profile but also to instill a culture of mindful eating in the younger generation, one rooted in respect for food and those who prepare it.
