The chairman of the Council is the first deputy of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, Saida Umarzoda. Among participants were Alberto Mendes, WFP Country Director in Tajikistan and representatives from ministries of finance, education and science, agriculture, economic development and trade.
The main topic of the Council was the development of the National school meals programme in the country. Council members decided to create an expert working group, which will include representatives of ministries and departments, as well as school meals specialists from Russia.
For the moment the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan is working on launching financing of school meals on the basis of UN WFP pilot schools with state funds.
During the Council the results of 2019 were also discussed. Not all points of the Plan for the implementation of the Sustainable School Feeding Development Strategy in Tajikistan for the period until 2027 were completed on time. The good news is that that will be corrected by the responsible representatives of the ministries.
